Quark Parfait Recipe: A Culinary Adventure with Pleasant Lane Farms

Updated: Nov 17

Our neighbors at Pleasant Lanes Farms in Latrobe, PA, are known for their award-winning, artisanal cheeses. We've been fans of their aged cheddar for years, but this past year brought something new to our plates—and palates.

Pleasant Lane Farms did a photoshoot featuring their cheeses on our fdp serveware, right here in our shop. Watching photographer Jessica Vogelsang style each cheese alongside handmade pottery was a delight, and the results were a beautiful showcase of art meeting artisanal food.

One of the best parts of the shoot? Sampling the amazing cheeses afterward! That's when we were introduced to quark—a delicious surprise.

Though we consider ourselves adventurous eaters, we’d never tried quark before. Now, we’re hooked. In fact, the quark parfait has become our new favorite breakfast!

If you’re in our area, stop by the shop, and we’ll happily point you toward Pleasant Lane Farms so you can get on the quark bandwagon, too.

What is Quark?

Quark is a creamy, soft, unaged cheese that's a staple in many European cuisines. With a texture similar to Greek yogurt but a milder, less tangy flavor, quark is wonderfully versatile. It can be enjoyed in both savory and sweet dishes and is made by fermenting milk with lactic acid bacteria, which gives it a gentle tang and smooth, creamy consistency.

Health Benefits of Quark

  • High Protein Content: Quark is packed with protein, often providing 12–14 grams per 100 grams. It's perfect for breakfast or a snack to help support muscle health and keep you satisfied.

  • Low in Fat: Depending on the variety, quark can be a low-fat option, making it a great choice for a lighter, nutritious meal.

  • Rich in Calcium: Like other dairy products, quark is an excellent source of calcium, important for bone health and muscle function.

  • Probiotic Benefits: Some types of quark contain beneficial bacteria, supporting digestive health and a balanced gut microbiome.

This quark parfait combines protein-rich quark, fiber-packed blackberries and oats, and healthy fats from nuts, creating a balanced, wholesome breakfast you’ll want to savor every day.

Here's a delicious, nutritious recipe for a Blackberry Quark Breakfast Parfait that’s perfect for a healthy start to the day!

Blackberry Quark Breakfast Parfait Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup quark cheese (a slightly tangy, creamy dairy product)

  • 1/2 cup fresh blackberries

  • 1–2 tsp honey (for drizzling)

Optional Toppings:

  • 2 tbsp rolled oats (raw or toasted)

  • 1–2 tbsp toasted nuts (e.g., almonds, walnuts, or pecans)

Instructions:

  1. Layer the Quark and Berries: In a cup or bowl, layer half of the quark cheese, followed by half of the blackberries. Add the remaining quark, and top with the rest of the blackberries.

  2. Add the Drizzle: Drizzle honey over the parfait to add a touch of natural sweetness.

  3. Add the Crunch (Optional): Sprinkle rolled oats or toasted nuts on top for extra texture and a boost of fiber and healthy fats.

  4. Serve and Enjoy: Enjoy immediately for the best texture and flavor!
